As Jack’s walls begin to crumble, he must navigate the quirky characters that seep into the mystery of Michelle’s disappearance.
Jack has returned to the sleepy community of Darrington but like so many things in this world, nothing is as it appears to be. The hidden mysteries that often go unnoticed begin to emerge as Jack and his new unpredictable sidekick begin to turn over the rocks.
Following a trail that has grown cold, Jack must tread carefully to protect his job, his family, and his own life…

The Ghosts of Varner Creek by Michael L. Weems

A well-crafted balance of history and supernatural mystery. -Kirkus ReviewsA Barnes and Noble Nook Sci Fi/Fantasy Bestseller A Kindle #1 Bestseller in Historical Fiction and Horror/Ghosts   An Amazon Top 100 Rated in Fiction, Top 10 in MysteriesKirkus ReviewsAt 87, Solomon “Sol” Mayfield is taken on an otherworldly journey to discover what really happened to his family.  Sol has been able to see ghosts ever since his mother and sister mysteriously disappeared when he was a child. When he dies in a nursing home in the second chapter of the novel, it’s only the beginning of his story. He’s reunited with his sister, Sarah, who reveals family secrets he was never able to learn while he was alive. The novel flashes back to 1909, when Sol was 12 and Sarah was 13. The day after Sarah’s birthday, Sol wakes up to find that his mother and sister are gone. Many in their small town of Varner Creek, Texas, assume that Sol’s mother, Annie, had finally had enough of his abusive father, Abram; others suspect foul play. Abram blamed Annie for Sarah’s Down syndrome and for trapping him in a small town by becoming pregnant at 14. Sent to live with his Aunt Emma and Uncle Colby, Sol is visited one night by what appears to be Sarah’s ghost. Is his sister dead? If so, who killed her? And what about their mother? Sol sets out to find the answers, some of which are not revealed until decades later. Weems’ story unfurls slowly, at a pace that feels consistent with life in a small Texas town. He has an impressive knack for dialect, and regional accents and idioms help bring the characters into vivid relief. Also, Sol’s self-deprecation and world-weary charm make him an instantly likable narrator. While it’s easy to get pulled into his story, the narrative sags a bit in the middle when the reader is given a thorough history of how Sol’s parents met, which doesn’t feel entirely necessary to the main story. When the final mystery is unveiled, however, the solution is sufficiently unexpected if not completely shocking.Author note: Not a horror story or thriller. This is a paranormal mystery in the old South. Recommended 18+ for adult themes and content.

One Way (Sam Archer Book 5) by Tom Barber

Praise for One Way:
‘So riveting I read in one sitting. Can’t speak highly enough about this book’
‘Such a heart stopping, roller coaster ride’
‘I’d go for ten stars if I could; best of the best’
‘I was holding my breath for much of this book not knowing what was coming up the next stairwell – what an adrenaline rush’
‘I have read every book in this series. Unlike so many other ‘series’ books, this one gets better with each book’

NYPD Detective Sam Archer is on his way home on a Sunday afternoon in New York City. He’s been out of the field for over three months due to a broken ankle and a nasty case of pneumonia, but has just been given the all clear to get back out there again, starting tomorrow. Archer takes a seat on a bench in the Upper West Side, enjoying a cold drink and soaking up the last remaining sun of the day.

Then he sees something totally unexpected.

Two men are crossing the street in front of him, heading quickly towards a group climbing into a car. Both men are armed with pistols.

And all hell breaks loose.

Shouting a warning and racing to their aid, a ferocious gunfight erupts, shattering the peaceful afternoon. Archer and the group are forced to flee uptown in the strangers’ vehicle, their ambushers giving chase. With their tyres blown out and the car crashing, the group have no choice but to take cover in a Harlem tenement block, situated in one of the most dangerous areas in the city. Their ambushers are close on their heels and seal off the building, pinning down the NYPD as they start to arrive.

Archer and the others are trapped in the building with their attackers.

Hiding out with the group from the car in an apartment upstairs, Archer starts to piece together the situation. The people he’s with are US Marshals, protecting a witness, a seven year old girl. Clearly, someone out there is desperate to kill her.

But as they barricade themselves in and wait for back-up, none of them realise the full extent of the danger they are in.

Others are on their way to the building, ruthless and trained killers who won’t leave until the girl is dead. As the scores of NYPD and Marshals on the street desperately try to figure out how they can get to their people inside, Archer and the Marshals must fight to stay alive against increasingly hopeless odds, running out of ammunition, chances and time.

Unarmed and totally unprepared, Archer is thrown back into the fray; either kill or be killed. As they encounter the enemy, take casualties and Archer learns who this child witness really is, two things become abundantly clear.

There’s only one way in or out of the building.

And it appears there’s only one way this can end.

My future stepbrother. My personal bodyguard.

And we’re stuck in the same house. All because my psycho ex-boyfriend is chasing me down and won’t stop until he steals me back.

Worst of all, my stepbrother bodyguard treats me like a prisoner, and I’m supposed to act like I’m not staring when he walks around in just a towel. The truth is, I hate him for jerking me around when were younger, but I still want to taste his lips whenever we talk.

I can’t stand it.

I hate that I need his help. I hate that I want his body.

Even with the mob ready to go to war, all I can think about is his cocky grin driving me insane.

Jerked contains mature content (explicit sexual situations, violence, and mature language), and is recommended for audiences 18+.
