The action is fast paced and the story moves along smoothly. I am a dedicated Clancy and Cussler reader. I’ve added McDermott to the list.Eric Groody – Amazon – 5 StarsKick-ass!Charlie Koch – Amazon – 5 StarsFast read with an appropriate amount of danger, disgusting scenarios and good guys. Hopefully the actual victims of human trafficking are on someone’s radar. A work of fiction that makes one think.L. Hart – Amazon – 5 StarsMcDermott has the knack of choosing themes in the spot light. Very fast paced and hard to put down. The maritime content on container ships rings true. I enjoyed it and strongly recommend it.Robert T. Bush – Amazon – 5 StarsAnother great read from R.E. McDermott! Fast paced & hard to put down. Ann Petersen – Amazon – 5 StarsThis is my second Dugan novel and as much as I liked the first one,I liked this one even more.Stephen “Mark” Elmore – Amazon – 5 StarsMcDermott has a great writing style that incorporates suspense and research laced into a superb story line. Right up there with Clancy, except he doesn’t get bogged down with too much technical detail.Brad Nelson – Amazon – 5 StarsDeadly Crossing will blow you away! Far and away R.E. McDermott’s best work yet! He is to be commended for bringing attention to this issue (human trafficking), while treating us to a gripping thriller that is impossible to put down. Prepare to lose sleep with this page-turner.Picky – Amazon – 5 StarsMy only issue was that I finished it before I was ready to be done. I’m not sure where the author got his insights into the Russian Mafia, but it had the feel of inside, in depth knowledge.Eddy – Amazon – 5 StarsI blame this book for several nights of lost sleep. I could not put it down even knowing I had to get up and get ready for work 6 hours later. Very exciting well developed story.Larry D. Richardson – Amazon – 5 StarsI got hooked on McDermott reading Deadly Straits. His stories are believable and months ahead of the world headlines. If you enjoy Vince Flynn and Tom Clancy you’ll really love RE McDermott.Ksherida – Amazon – 5 Stars
Sigrid stood in the center of what had once been the Academy grounds on Alcyone. Now, all that remained were the burned and collapsed remnants of the school and dormitories. Smoke still wisped up from the blackened piles of lumber and debris. The stench was raw and acrid, threatening to overwhelm her sensors.
“There’s no way Independents did this,” Christian said. “It looks like a whole battalion landed here.”
Frantic, Sigrid scanned the area again, searching desperately for signs of the girls, but nothing turned up in her sensory modes. She tried calling out with her comlink. If they were in range, they’d pick up the signal. But there was still nothing. Not even the orbital satellites showed any sign of the girls, or survivors for that matter. Whoever had done this had been brutal and thorough.
Sigrid knew she would kill them.
Sigrid and Suko are two girls from the impoverished and crime-infested streets of 24th century Earth. Sold into slavery to save their families from financial ruin, the girls are forced to live out their lives in service to the Kimura Corporation, a prestigious mercenary clan with a lineage stretching back long before the formation of the Federated Corporations.
Known only to Kimura, the two girls share startling secret—a rare genetic structure not found in tens of millions of other girls.
But when their secret becomes known, Sigrid and Suko quickly find themselves at the center of a struggle for power. Now, hunted by men who would seek to control them, Sigrid and Suko are forced to fight for their own survival, and for the freedom of the girls from Alcyone.
HISTORICAL FICTION: It’s 1931 and men are desperate for jobs. A lucky few will get to work in the searing heat of the Nevada desert on the massive Hoover Dam, the single largest public works project in history. Their goal is to tame the mighty Colorado River with a dam that towers sixty stories high from the base of the canyon to the crest of the dam. In doing so they will create the largest man-made lake in the world. Nothing like it has ever been built.Life and Death at Hoover Dam tells the story of a handful of these men and the sacrifices they endured. From choking on gasoline fumes in 120-degree heat inside the five-stories-tall diversion tunnels to dangling by slender cables from the thousand-foot walls of Black Canyon, they will put their lives at risk. In the end, these men and the 20,000 others who worked on the dam will build a monument that makes possible the palm trees of Los Angeles and the desert oasis of Phoenix. This is the story of their lives—the men who built the matchless Hoover Dam.
My name is Arturo Basilides. I am an orphan living in the slums of Medio City – the capital of a nation ravaged by a war which was won by extremists. Offered a choice between slavery and disenfranchisement, we exist in an underclass so disconnected we effectively inhabit a different era. Daily life involves scavenging, theft and substance abuse with a bunch of misfits who are somehow still in one piece after years of abandonment. I am a natural born fighter and although I despise warfare, I must witness the downfall of those bastard elites whilst fulfilling my romantic intentions with the forever unattainable girl of my dreams.
Sky City is a sci-fi action adventure with light elements of fantasy. It is set in a near future alternative reality where science is indistinguishable from magic and oppression is near-inescapable. Technology has created a newer, ‘superior’ form of human and genetically engineered monstrosities are as terrifying as anything encountered in your nightmares. The underclass have been underestimated and as they fight back the boundary between freedom fighter and terrorist becomes increasingly blurred. Meanwhile, the drug-induced haze of a traumatised mind places a question mark over the meaning of reality.
‘Sky City: The Rise of an Orphan interweaves heavy social issues and philosophy without ever sounding pedantic, milking the sci-fi genre for all its worth. The slum dog’s efforts to maintain their humanity in such a heartless age, when everything is going against them is so palpable. The 99% versus 1% theme focuses our minds on where society might be heading and forces us to look at things how they are, if we wish them to be truly different.’ Dean C. Moore – Author of Renaissance 2.0
A half-zythian bard named Vanx is in chains for bedding the Duchess of Highlake. The Duke wants him dead, but his wife secretly sent their daughter to buy his freedom from the slave markets. This is bad news, for bad things can happen to an ill guarded caravan in the mountains. When the duke’s mercenaries attack to kill the adulterous prisoner all hell breaks loose. Now, the only way Vanx and the Princess of Highlake can escape the duke and his men is if they can somehow make it through the Wildwood, a place that no one has ever returned from before…..
From the Author:
After I finished writing The Wardstone Trilogy, I still had several months to go before I would be released from prison. I did not want to lapse in my religious routine of penning three thousand words a day, so I didnt. Book One Through the Wildwood, is a fun and intense book that introduces a few of the series main characters. I have over a thousand pages worth of Vanx Malic and his curious group of companions sitting here in longhand. I will be publishing them in eBook format, about two hundred fifty pages at a time, over the next year and a half. In lieu of further sales pitching, I invite you to click the “Look Inside” icon on the books fantastic cover image and start reading.
Enjoy the journey, M. R. Mathias

Just as the rock band, Doberman’s Stub, was about to reach stadium tour status, its leader was brutally murdered when his headphones exploded during a recording session. The widow, who inherits $5 million, is the San Diego Police Department’s number one suspect. She hires Jason Duffy, a 27-year-old PI in his first year of private practice, in spite of his background as a former musician.Jason learns that the victim was also a very skilled contract negotiator, who was in the middle of an acrimonious renegotiation with the record company at the time of his death. He also finds that the record company has a very unhealthy tie to the Russian Mafia. As an inexperienced detective, Jason does not yet have the contacts within the police department to gather vital information. He is forced to mend fences with his estranged father, an opinionated ex-SDPD detective. While Jason investigates the record company, he also takes a close look at the three surviving members of the victim’s band. One is an alcoholic/drug addict drummer, on the verge of being kicked out of the group. The second is a bass player who camouflages his rock star status by living in an ordinary house in a lower middle-class neighborhood. Third is a lead guitarist and writer of half of the band’s songs, who lives well beyond his means.Jason has not yet become hardened to the very real dangers of his new profession. We experience his inner conflict as his girlfriend, staff, and family are drawn into the danger zone. After Jason’s part-time employee is severely beaten during a stakeout, he sells the story of the Russian Mafia’s involvement in the record business to a tabloid journalism TV show in a misguided effort to protect his employer and coworker. This serves to drive the case to new heights of danger and suspense.Jason goes behind the industry veneer of sex & drugs & hedonistic lifestyles. He shows us how the 21st Century world of downloads, file sharing, and image demographics need to be considered in a case of Rock & Roll Homicide.
PRIMAL Inception is a prequel in the PRIMAL series. It reveals the back-story of former CIA paramilitary operatives Ice and Vance.
Kosovo, 1999. CIA operatives, Ice and Vance, are supporting a crack unit of Albanian rebels. War criminals by any standards, these brutal fighters are unlikely allies in a vicious ethnic conflict.
Two years on and the war has devastated Kosovo. NATO peacekeepers try to bring order to a region ruled by Albanian mafia, corrupt government officials, and apathetic UN bureaucrats.
Ice, scarred by genocide, is running a side project investigating war crimes. When Vance returns from a posting to Africa, they are faced with a stark choice. Abide by the façade of stability or, with the help of the SAS, fight a rogue battle against war criminals hungry for power.
For a limited period of time this version of PRIMAL Inception includes the PRIMAL Compendium as a bonus! This compilation of information about PRIMAL outlines the fictional background and concept of operations for PRIMAL.
