Brian, the Alchemist & the Silver Dragon (The Brian Pankhurst) by P.J. Taylor

Magic lessons are starting up for Brian: a much-needed distraction from the tragedy over the summer. But the dead rising from their graves is perhaps too much of a distraction. Now Brian and his friends must work out what is happening and why. Does it have something to do with the Stone of Surzaal, a fabled emerald with the power to grant near-immortality? Who is the six-fingered man? And what exactly is the ‘silver dragon’?

Fire, Aim…Ready: Management: The Start at the End Approach to Crushing Competition, Crafting Culture, and Cementing Relationships by Eliot Wagonheim

Over the course of my legal career, I have started companies, served as COO for a hugely successful software company, and started, managed, and run law firms. For 27 years, I have guided companies of every size and description — from Mom ‘n Pops to some of the most successful and recognized brands in the world. I have negotiated billions of dollars’ worth of contracts and I have helped clients buy and sell huge companies, as well as small, family-run concerns. I have negotiated countless employment agreements, strategic alliances, partnerships, and buy-outs.

In all of that time, and in all of those transactions, I have never found a better secret to success in business than the approach I have developed and taught as “Fire, Aim…Ready” or FAR. That’s the secret I share with you here.

Fire, Aim…Ready: Management shows you how to employ this strategy throughout every facet of your organization, from recruiting and onboarding to outstanding business development, marketing, and sales.

A FAR-sighted organization excels where its peers simply imitate each other. Using the Fire, Aim…Ready approach, management teams and owners can work more efficiently, more collaboratively, and more profitably. Written by an entrepreneurial lawyer in plain English, the lessons can be understood in the space of an evening, but will resonate for a lifetime.

Che Bonaparte Must Die by A. L. Perks

Who’s trying to kill the champion for peace? The USA and China are on the verge of a nuclear slugfest, and the world chooses an unorthodox political activist with the unusual name of Che Bonaparte to save the day. She has the instincts of a fighter, the wisdom of Nelson Mandela, and the boldness of a Napoleon. And because of this, she must be killed.THE STORY: Don’t mess with this millennial as she’s busy saving our world. The year is 2018. A North Korean stupidity triggers a chain of out-of-control events resulting in two nuclear explosions; the first in China, soon followed by a blast on American soil. Many innocent people die. The two most powerful nations on the planet blame each other and are now hell-bent on getting revenge—or “justice” in their views—while the rest of the world can only watch helplessly from the sidelines. There is a glimmer of hope. The two sparring superpowers request a negotiator to represent the Rest of the World. In a bizarre closed-door session at the United Nations and to everyone’s surprise, Che Bonaparte is chosen. She is the youngest among 158 candidates and the most unorthodox. While possessing some international experience, she is considered a maverick and the confidence level of the world’s political elite is low. After days of frustrating and fruitless negotiations, Bonaparte goes for a game changer. She decides to ditch the traditional approach and propose an unprecedented get-together—the three leaders alone—declaring, “It’s what people want from their leaders, to save the day. Seven billion pairs of eyes on three people. And, quite conveniently, this is how leaders want history to remember them.”Her proposed location is peculiar: the rumoured site of the Garden of Eden—where Adam and Eve tasted the forbidden fruit. She intends to face off with the two most powerful people in the world: the President of the United States, Evelyn Lee-Grant, a God-fearing Republican whose international experience is untested; and the President of the People’s Republic of China, Jian Chang, a relative unknown whose quick ascension to power has made many enemies. Both presidents are advised by their teams not to show up.Che Bonaparte’s mission is obvious: prevent humanity from plummeting into a radioactive hell. Can she pull it off?THE CHE BONAPARTE SERIES “Che Bonaparte Must Die” is the third of a four-part narrative that spans twelve years in the life of a very singular person. In the first, “Che Bonaparte as Barbarian,” we saw how bizarre circumstances gave the world its first glimpse of this young woman with a big name, bigger ideas, and a future which hints the extraordinary. This third story picks up seven years after the first when she is now a mother of two. It can easily be read on its own. The series in order:1 – CHE BONAPARTE AS BARBARIAN2 – CHE BONAPARTE AS HERO3 – CHE BONAPARTE MUST DIE4 – CHE BONAPARTE MUST LIVE (coming 2018)WHO IS CHE BONAPARTE?She is a woman in her twenties and a contradiction in every way; she has a fighter’s instinct but preaches peace. Che was introduced to politics as a child by her father with political rallies and street demonstrations as her playgrounds. Her heroes ranged from peace icons Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Ghandi, to boxers Muhammad Ali and Rocky Balboa. Now, as an adult, Che is considered by those who know her as wise beyond her years; well versed in the lessons of history and driven by a contagious optimism for the future of humanity. Simplistic labels like right-wing or left-wing do not apply—she does things her way. And while sometimes Che can take chances that make others cringe, over time she develops a presence. People, who meet her, warm up to her; trust her. They sense something unusual and extraordinary, as if her current life is just preparation for something big and important. Then North Korea fires a missile at Japan and the world desperately seeks a saviour. Ready or not, Che Bonaparte is called.

Ancient Terracottas from South Italy and Sicily in the J. Paul Getty Museum by Maria Lucia Ferruzza

In the ancient world, terracotta sculpture was ubiquitous. Readily available and economical—unlike stone suitable for carving—clay allowed artisans to craft figures of remarkable variety and expressiveness. Terracottas from South Italy and Sicily attest to the prolific coroplastic workshops that supplied sacred and decorative images for sanctuaries, settlements, and cemeteries. Sixty terracottas are investigated here by noted scholar Maria Lucia Ferruzza, comprising a selection of significant types from the Getty’s larger collection—life-size sculptures, statuettes, heads and busts, altars, and decorative appliqués. In addition to the comprehensive catalogue entries, the publication includes a guide to the full collection of over one thousand other figurines and molds from the region by Getty curator of antiquities Claire L. Lyons. Reflecting the Getty’s commitment to open content, Ancient Terracottas from South Italy and Sicily in the J. Paul Getty Museum is available online at www.getty.edu/publications/terracottas and may be downloaded free of charge in multiple formats. For readers who wish to have a bound reference copy, this paperback edition has been made available for sale.
