On her first assignment out of the Academy, young healer and scholar, Shannon Macaulay is summoned to the struggling kingdom of Regone to see to the wounds of a young but crippled king. When the unwanted attentions of an aggressive knight and the sudden appearance of a hated dragon turn her world upside down, she decides to take matters into her own hands even if doing so proves dangerous.
Finding herself strangely drawn to the company of the dragon, Gnaw, Shannon must force herself out of her safe world of books and botany to come to the aid of her unexpected ally in a strange kingdom, cursed by a fateful encounter with a dragon and the loss of a beloved prince. Can she learn to put aside her fears, and perhaps sacrifice her deepest desires, to help a friend and restore a family?
It’s about taking control of destiny. About making hard choices and being viciously attacked over them. It’s about the moment we become exhausted pleasing everybody else, and decide what “the others” think just doesn’t matter anymore.
Then we set ourselves free.
It’s about rejecting preconceived notions, following our hearts, and giving new meaning to “crazy.” It’s about the escapes we made – the well-planned, calculated ones, and the frantic, desperate ones.
It’s about messy breakups, verbal massacres and heartbreaking ends to bad situations that we walk away from badly scarred, but alive – and in awe of that blessed moment of clarity where our inner voice shrieked, “RUN! LIKE HELL!” and we listened.
And to later when we realized that moment was a miracle.
But mostly it’s about life – gorgeous, screwed up, magnificent life and all the pain, love, loss and promises that go along with it. It’s about dreams worth having and the ones we make come true. And even those we must leave behind.
It’s about finding the beat of our own drummer and fearlessly stomping to it.
Burning Down Rome is the rock ‘n’ roll story of four unconquerable souls who nearly lost it all: Themselves, each other, and their passion… and then who reclaimed themselves and blazed beyond what the world said they could do.
